March 2023 Newsletter
Our group met in person on March 11 th at St. Peter Lutheran Church, at 2550 E. Gettysburg Ave., in Clovis, the first time since 2020. Attendance was limited.
Attendance for our next meeting will also be limited following safe health care practices. Our next in-person meeting is scheduled for May 13 th . We also hope to have an online option as well.
If you are interested in attending in-person, please contact Lisa Jones: at lisa2jones@yahoo.com.
Our meetings will be held every other month during 2023 and we hope to continue to meet in-person at Saint Peter Church. Our meetings frequently feature speakers who are professionally trained specialists in Movement Disorders as well as Parkinson’s disease in general. We also host speakers who present on topics relevant to the social, psychological, legal, pharmaceutical, financial and caregiving aspects of dealing with PD.
Out of concern for the safety of our members, we suspended in-person meetings in 2020 which was difficult for all involved. The benefits of meeting in-person and being around others who are also going through difficult life challenges is a great source of support and engagement and offers inspiration. Many friendships have been made and nurtured with these connections. The social isolation resulting from concerns for infection has greatly impacted these relationships.
It is our sincere hope that we may continue to safely meet in-person and attract dynamic speakers who are able to bring important information about the nature of this disease, how it evolves and how it is treated and signs of new treatments on the horizon. The Greater Fresno Parkinson’s Support Group has been active since the early 80’s and has grown and developed over the years. We have a newsletter published bimonthly with current and planned activities and various classes and events sponsored locally. There is also information about events sponsored by the National Parkinson’s Foundation. You can find our newsletter at gfpsg.com.
Our local Parkinson’s support group also partners with Exercise for Life Foundation and Rock Steady trained boxing and exercise coach John Bowers. If you are interested in joining an exercise class online or attend the Rock Steady Boxing class’s in-person please contact John Bowers at bowersjd@hotmail.com or call (559) 392-8842.
Welcome!
